Nurturing Fathers
A Way of Life

Analysis of a Nurturing Father:
How can I help…the situation, the child, my spouse? Etc. He often helps through joining with others in collaborative and cooperative efforts. He shares his power with others, and helps others use their power constructively. He learns to see conflict as an opportunity for creative problem solving where everyone can “win”. He recognizes that nobody likes to “lose.” He leads through nurturing, and others feel drawn to him. This ease and close-ness create a “we” relationship, instead of a “me vs. you.”

In challenging and tense situations, he will stay and find ways to work things out (resolve conflict, solve problems), e.g., find ways to continue to be a nurturing father during a difficult divorce.
- Mark Perlman, MA

“The supreme test of any civilization is whether or not it can teach men to become good fathers.”
