Asset of the Month
January

Asset #40

The kais of the holidays comes to a halt; we now celebrate 2009 as it was quickly to approach us. To bring in 2009 we focus on asset number 40- Positive View of Personal Future for the month of January. Although all 40 Developmental Assets are encouraged in youth programs, your daily life, at work, etc. number 40 is focused in January. The 40 Developmental Assets was identified by the Search Institute to build a healthy development to help young people have healthy, caring and responsible lifestyles. Here are some examples of activities that you and your program can use to targeted asset 40.

Examples out of the book:
“What Kids Need to Succeed” by Peter Benson, Ph.D, Judy Galbraith, M.A., and Pamela Espeland
Ask your youth to draw a picture of your fears about the future. Talk about them… and then rip them. Discuss how you have the power to deal with difficult situations when they arise.

Expose your group with community role models.

Do projects that point to a positive future. We tend to always address problems but identify areas of hope, creativity and encourage them to get involved.
